I was hopeful going into this game, thinking that it may not be another horror game for us to play, but I was unfortunately mistaken. While I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with a thrilling game that keeps someone on the edge of their seat, I however, am very easily spooked. So you could imagine that when I begun this game, I was uncomfortable straight from the get. To keep things a little light and easy, I decided to play some music on my TV while I played the game, to ease the nerves.
Starting the game, I went into it with less nerves than with Inscription, but still was a little worried about getting spooked out by the game, however, I continued on to see if it is something that I may end up enjoying. In terms of gameplay, I ended up actually enjoying the game. I thought the conversational aspects of the game made it very entertaining and it reminded me of my days of enjoying those “choose your own adventure” books, thinking to myself and wondering all the different outcomes this game may have. Being told in the beginning that killing the princess was the only option of saving the world eded up being an overall difficult task due to the beauty of the visuals this game brought along with the typical narrative of “saving the princess.” With playing the game, I found it very interesting how the creators were really able to make a firm and obvious storyline. I feel like a lot of the games that I play (which are not many), don’t have very obvious storylines. So being able to have a firm task at hand and being given the option to do different things that may change the outcome of the story, really brought a level of excitement while playing.
Visually, I was astounded by the work that was put into it. I thought the hand drawn visuals really brought a sense of emotion and realness to the game, which reminded me just how much work someone puts into these games when they are created. On top of the beautiful visuals, the creators did an amazing job showing the emotions by the princess herself. I thought it was so interesting just how you could read what she was thinking just by looking at the drawing that the illustrator did, and I thought this aspect of the game really was what got me interested.
In terms of my entire viewing of the game, I thought it was very fun and very visually pleasing. I enjoyed the overall gameplay, being given a task and given options on how to move forward, while also having very intricate visuals along with making decisions through the game. I could definitely see myself playing this game again in my free time as I found it very entertaining.
Hi Cassady,
I am glad that I’m not the only one who gets easily spooked by movies and games in this class, but I agree with you in that the game was really enjoyable instead. I like how you brought up how the creators made an obvious storyline since the game branches off into so many different narratives, so it is decently hard to do so. Cool blog post!
