Directions:

  • Analog escape room where the (ghost) player is stuck in her own bedroom, trying to discover the cause of her own death so she can make peace and move onto the afterlife. Clues will be uncovered by reading through her diaries, emails, blog posts, calendars, etc. to uncover how she died. Evocative space of spooky ghostly room and props, with emergent narrative through clues. This approach would create mostly narrative and discovery fun for players.
  • Escape room similar premise to above, but as a point-and-click game. Coding elements would be more involved, and game design would rely more on creating / using assets rather than making physical props. Similar evocative space using music and styles to create spooky vibes, with emergent narrative. This approach would create mostly narrative and discovery fun for players.
  • Analog escape room, with similar premise as above, but the player completes the whole thing blindfolded. We would devise some narrative adjustments to explain why the player can’t see, but would rely more on audio and tactile clues that would challenge the player. Evocative space would be created with audio rather than props, and this could be more of an immersive experience than the other options. This would increase the challenge quite a bit, so we would have to balance out the difficulty of the puzzles to make it fun and not frustrating. While this direction also lends itself to narrative and approach, I think it would also create challenge as another type of fun more so than in the other directions.
