Team Norms

Following a discussion following the guiding prompts, we all contributed norms to the following list.

  1. Speak up – there are no stupid questions/ideas!
  2. Prioritize in-person meetings over zoom/asynchronous work
  • Set meeting times early. Be as responsive as possible to communications.
  1. If you have to miss a meeting, communicate and make plans.
  • Notify everyone that you can’t make it as soon as possible, follow up on the notion, and make a plan to sync up.
  1. Clarify work actions at the end of group meetings.
  • Check deadlines and goals before the next meeting. Assign tasks.
  1. Take ownership/be responsible for work items you’re capable of doing.
  2. Every work item must have a clear person assigned to be responsible. If there isn’t, point it out to the group.
  3. The person who is responsible for a work item has final creative direction over that portion. This also means that the person is responsible for making sure their vision is aligned with the rest of the product.
  4. Ask for help if you need it.
  • Communicate if you’re overwhelmed or overestimated your abilities. Navigate roadblocks collectively.
  1. Everyone takes ownership for the final product.
  • We’re making a product we’re all proud of.
  1. Foster a culture of care by respecting and being understanding towards each other.
  • Result-oriented is good, but it should never be an excuse to be inconsiderate to other people’s feelings! Be nice & respectful in the way you communicate!
