MDA & 8 Kinds of Fun

A game that I really enjoyed playing with friend during the COVID pandemic was League of Legends. My friends and I would play in the Summoner’s Rift mode of the game in which you are part of a team of 5 against an enemy team of 5. Each team of 5 would have 5 different roles that are each vital to the team, and the differences in these roles would be achieved through the different kinds of abilities the typical characters for those roles would have. For example, an ADC role would be better played by a character with a long-range shooting ability. There were 3 different lanes that 1-2 of the team members would occupy and try to fight to the enemy side where the team would try to destroy the other teams’ Nexus (like capture the flag style). Teams would work together to employ different strategies to try to push to the enemy Nexus, from choosing special skillsets in their players to doubling up players in a lane to sneaking through the jungle between the lanes. However, the end objective was for the entire team to work together to win, as it was nearly impossible to destroy the tower defenses and enemy Nexus by yourself without being killed by the enemy team. Furthermore, communication was vital throughout the game to know when enemies were coming–especially since parts of the map were blacked out in enemy territory and the neutral jungle–through the use of a chat and audio communication. This need to work together created a sense of fellowship I felt with my friends as we played together and worked cooperatively to win.
