Hi everyone, I’m Daphne (she/her). Here’s a pic of me on spring break last week holding a sword in the MET gift shop.
My favorite game of all time is Bloodborne! If you don’t know it already, it’s a dark fantasy action RPG by the same creators of Dark Souls. I’ve played every game in the series and enjoy them all for varying reasons, but Bloodborne speaks to me for both aesthetic/story and mechanical reasons. I just adore the gothic environment with supernatural creatures and mysterious cosmic forces, and the amount of content online dissecting the lore of the game speaks to its depth and resonance with gamers today (I expect to have a Bloodborne tattoo by the age of 30). On another layer, the gameplay is notoriously intense and difficult, challenging players to overcome true gauntlets of combat and learn precise timings and weaknesses of foes that hold incredible advantage over them. If you’ve played a Fromsoft game before, you know the payoff of defeating a particularly difficult boss, and you’ll stay chasing that rush until you’ve finished every game in the catalogue. Plus, it has the coolest weapon designs in the series hands-down. Couldn’t recommend enough, though you’ll need a Playstation :/
A game I’ve played recently is Stardew Valley. I fall into periods of obsession with the game, and I’m in one right now. I just adore the variety of character storylines (I’m married to Sebastian) and everything you can do with your farm. It definitely spoke to me in the pandemic when everyone was saying the word ‘cottagecore’ over and over again. Beyond that, there’s actually very robust game mechanics in combat and mining, so there’s a bit of something for everyone. Plus the whole game is made by one dude, as many great games are. He’s working on a new game called ‘Haunted Chocolatier,’ which kinda speaks for itself, I’m very excited.
