Sketchnote: Game Architecture

In the game Zelda, BOTW, there is a traditional loop system for crafting. First, the player learns about the materials available to them by seeing them in the world, then the player decides what items they want to combine to make a new item, next they take the action of clicking the buttons required for crafting – holding items and placing them in a pot. The rules are that there are only a certain number of items that can be combined at a time. The feedback is the type of item that the combination results in. If it is a bad combination, they receive “dubious food”. Over time, the player learns about what types of combinations result in edible foods with stat boosts, potions, etc.
