If I had to choose a favorite game of all time, it would most likely be The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I just love that series in general though, the world, the characters, everything about it gets me hyped. I highly recommend the books as well! While there are quite a few of them, reading them all is worth it.
As for a recent game I’ve enjoyed, that would have to be Dragon Quest VIII. I started getting into the franchise towards the end of last year, starting with Dragon Quest V (an amazing game!!) and recently decided to start VIII as I heard a lot of good things about it. I don’t know what it is about these games, but they honestly just give me a feeling of comfort. Maybe it’s the soundtrack? Or the voice acting? Or maybe it’s just the nostalgic art style of Akira Toriyama? Whatever it is, it has me excited to keep exploring this franchise!
