Sketchnote: Game Architecture by Ngoc

One of my favorite games is Plants vs. Zombies. The architecture of Plants vs. Zombies revolves around a strategic tower defense concept intertwined with resource management and wave-based gameplay loops mixed with arcs. The main core gameplay loop of PvZ is to pick up “sun”, buy plants that offer “sun”, and then plant other plants with the “sun” accumulated over time. Repeating this event over and over, players then can go through arcs of zombie waves, some with increased difficulty, within the level. The endgame arc culminates when players either successfully defend their home from the final zombie onslaught or lose to the wave, resulting in victory or defeat. This process is repeated in many game levels, where new plants and zombies are introduced. This architectural design seamlessly blends strategic planning, real-time combat, and resource allocation, providing a use of both loops and arcs.
