Sketchnote: Game Architecture – Ryan Kang

The game I like is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This game exemplifies the seamless integration of loops and arcs in its game design, creating a rich and immersive experience. The game features exploration, combat, resource gathering, and puzzle-solving loops that allow players to develop skills and understanding over time. These loops are complemented by narrative arcs, such as main quests that advance the story, side quests that enrich the world, and a memory recovery arc that deepens the backstory. The game’s architecture supports this integration with a dynamic open world where players can engage with modular quests in any order, and layered feedback systems that guide and reward them through both visual and audio cues. The blend of adaptive challenges and emergent gameplay, enabled by the game’s physics and chemistry engine, ensures that both the loops and arcs maintain engaging and relevant throughout the player’s journey.
