Sketchnote: Game Architecture

Cuphead’s game architecture is similar to that of a micro parallel arcs architectural pattern. There’s the interaction loops of moving, jumping, dodging, shooting, aiming, etc. needed to beat the bosses in each level. Those loops exist in parallel to beautiful artwork and fitting music present in each level that connect to the underlying narrative. Between levels, you move around the world map, interacting with characters that produce dialogue that connect to the broader narrative of the game. Every time you beat a level, you progress further into the narrative. And there’s always music playing in the background that perfectly captures that intense but playful energy that is Cuphead.
