Sketchnote: Game Architecture — Alex Tsai

One game I enjoy is Nintendo Super Mario Bros. The game consists of several loops that lead to mastery of several different skills, and as the player progresses through each level, the player slowly learns more and more skills through these loops. For example, the player learns through trial and error how to jump, double jump, jump and move or run faster, just to name a few. There is an overall game arc, where Mario must embark on a journey to rescue Princess Peach. Since there are levels to the game, each level also provides its own narrative arc.
