Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Review

Following our play of a mysterious and confusing game like Inscryption, I felt a lot more at ease and understanding of this game. I was quickly drawn into the game, which allowed me to understand and enjoy it much more than I thought.

From the start, I was immediately drawn in by the visuals and easier gameplay. In terms of visuals, I really enjoyed the vibrancy and colorful aspects. I felt as if going from Inscryption to this was really fun and allowed me to see different ways that video games could be played. Moving to actual gameplay, it reminded me of my days playing Mortal Kombat with my older cousin when I was younger. Looking at my days playing Mortal Kombat as a child, I remember never actually learning the different ways you could attack, unless it was an easy move pressing two buttons. Using that memory, I used my very intricate skills of pressing a bunch of buttons in order to attack the other character in the game. I would say that it was not very successful, but it was however, very fun.

Comparing this video game to may gameplay as a child with Mortal Kombat, I would say that this game definitely takes the cake. The vibrancy and brightness is much more admirable to me and I would choose this any day. I think this would be a great game to play with friends as it is not only fun to actually play, but the beautiful colors in the game and the fantasy-esque visuals that would occur during a fun move would really bring lots of energy to a hangout.

In terms of what I maybe wasn’t the biggest fan of for the game, it would probably be that I am not the best at not smashing all the buttons while playing. Instead of taking time to learn the different moves one could use, I instead go forward (every time) with just hitting a bunch of buttons and seeing what happens. However, I do not think this “con” of the game is due to anything done by the creators of the game, but rather my own ignorance to how to fully play the game. Because of this, I decided to go forward and learn one move. Learning the move was fairly easy but using it in the right situations was what I really struggled with.

Looking at my time with this gameplay, I really enjoyed the experience of playing and learning the storyline. Initially, I was drawn in by the similarity to Mortal Kombat was kept by the stunning visuals and fun gameplay. I really loved the character aesthetics and thrilling moments of being close to winning the battle. While I may have smashed buttons the whole time, I had a great experience with playing and would definitely play this again not only with friends, but also on my own to just have a fun time.
