Short Exercise: What do Prototypes Prototype?

1. How can users interact with our game?

This is an important question to answer because people will not play our game if its interactions are not intuitive or interesting. In order to make this prototype, we could make a small subset of our game cards (which contain prompts) and let users interact with them. I think this would be a useful practice for getting feedback on the runtime dynamics created by the procedures of our game.

2. What do our game cards and other game pieces look like?

This is an important question to answer because the visual feel of our game can drastically influence our users’ perceptions of our game. In order to prototype this, we could design our card game pieces, game box, and other pieces in figma. I think this would also be incredibly useful in the game design process and overlaps quite a bit with the actual development process

3. In what situation will users play our game?

This is important because, as designers, we want to make sure users are actually motivated to play our game in the first place. We could prototype this by creating a storyboard of the game-play scenario. I think this would be useful in the preliminary generation phase of our design process.
