Inscryption Review

I am not someone that plays video games very often, so this intricate game really stumped me from the beginning. Although I was confused and tried to figure this game out, I dove headfirst into gameplay in order to not only challenge myself, but to really try something that seemed difficult. I am not the biggest fan of horror so meeting face to face with an eerie cabin and shadowy figure made me feel a bit nervous. Going forward with the game, I started to slowly understand the basics of gameplay and also began to appreciate the intricacy of design done by the creators.

Starting the game, I was honestly confused, but I kept going and just trying out any cards to see what was the best option in terms of winning. I started picking up on which cards were best to use, and I really started to understand just how much smart gameplay was necessary to keep progressing. Although I did start to pickup on the intricacies of the cards and the different ways each card could be used, it did take me a while. The task of trying to figure out how to move forward in the game and the mysteries behind it took a lot of time and ultimately, hindered my ability to play for a long amount of time. This game stumped me.

Although I did not get much gameplay (due to me trying to understand it), I did enjoy the aspect of placing cards and learning the ways they could be used. I also found it silly how some of the cards would speak to you, which I felt added some light to a dark and mysterious game. This definitely helped me out with getting the basics of this game in the time I did play. While the game might have been dark and eerie, I still felt as if the task of learning the game and getting into it was fun.

Starting off playing this game, I was not much into horror, card games, or trying new games that take a lot of time to understand, but after playing and taking risks in the game (in order to learn), I really started to appreciate it and even felt as if I learned an important lesson: take time and make mistakes and it may help you progress. On top of getting that big takeaway from the game, I also felt like I had a lot of fun getting to understand something new and try something that I would normally never get my hands into.
